A little 'bout me....
I used to be a freelance horse trainer, traveling from farm to farm doing a little bit of this, and some of that. I worked exclusively in West Orange County and parts of Lake County. From teaching weanlings to lead and tie, starting young horses, correcting problem horses and general schooling and conditioning; I was blessed to enjoy such variety in my job.
I also had a very limited number of riding students. Though I prefer to be on the horse myself, it's very rewarding to have a hand in the bond which develops between horse and rider as the student learns to relate in a different way to their horse. (Sharing in the victory of those ribbons is a pretty rewarding feeling also!)
Since moving to Lake County in July of 2005 I have started working part-time as a vet tech for my friend and Veterinarian Dr. Linda Galbraith. It's very challenging and rewarding. It can be pretty scary to see what some horses can get themselves into, and pretty enlightening to assist them in getting out.
Since I'm not riding someone else's horse, I can usually be found riding one of my own, (of which there are currently three!!!) With my own, I enjoy trail riding and camping with my husband, children, grandkids and friends. I especially love distance and obstacle rides. There's nothing quite like a wide open trail in front of you and a ground eating trotter underneath you; unless it's the honor of the trust your horse places in you when he unhesitatingly walks between all those flapping balloons and streamers, simply because you asked him to...
In may of 2006 I joined the Lake county Sheriff's Posse which is a volunteer organization made up of 20 civilian volunteers and 4 sworn officer liaisons. I have really enjoyed the added challenges of learning team work and co-operation. The training can get pretty intense (check out the link to that page) but the rewards are even greater!
I love to learn new techniques and methods, and to be around those who love to learn also. I know just enough to know there's a lot more to learn! Hope to meet you on the trail someday, Thanks for stopping by. Kerry
